49 Crowns

With this lesson we honor ourselves and our community with an important and foundational exercise to root our PRIDE:

Building Our Crowns.

Inspired by lessons from three essencial queer icons, Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and James Baldwin, we invite you to craft floral crowns as an artistic meditation on personal power and communal loss. Pride is a Practice: a daily act of self-love and remembrance. Building Our Crowns is an exercise in pride.

Anyone anywhere can build their crowns from anything.

The crown symbolizes power and its connection with the sacred: Divine power.

Power that is innate, and intrinsic to each of us. Power you don’t have to earn, pay for, be born into, or fear. It’s natural power. It comes from flowers and breathing and connection. It comes from U.

U make your power.

We titled this meditation 49 crowns as a tribute to the 49 lives lost on June 12, 2016 at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, florida.

Every crown you make is a communal act of love and reflection. Every crown is token of remembrance and pride. please help us in remembering their LOVE, their names, their faces and their STOries.

Floral crowns have been an integral part of our practice for the past two years. We've shared them with hundreds of participants at Trans Pride, Models of Pride, & The LA LGBT Center.

We hope you know how incredibly special its been to witness people of all ages not only create amazing pieces of art, but also come together to honor our heroes, teachers, and loved ones. We hope you’ll join us on this meditation for Pride 2020 and practice holding space for yourself, your community, and all those who have werked to Remind U that,

"your crown is already bought and paid for. All you have to do is put it on."
